What is Bluetooth?

The one constant thing about technology is that it keeps changing. And, technology is always getting more and more advanced as well as getting more and more user friendly. Earlier, you had black and white Television, then you had color television. Now, you have not only television but it is integrated with video recording, remote control operation, and so many other advanced features.

Similarly, mobile phone was used only for communication. Now, several features like camera, music, GPS, voice recording, weather broadcast, internet and Television are integrated into a mobile phone.

Technologists have seriously been experimenting with wireless technology in every gadget. Wireless technology has been a roaring success due to the introduction of Bluetooth.

Now, bluetooth is available in every type of devices and gadgets. Because of its wireless properties, bluetooth has enhanced the functionality of every device which it has been able to encompass. Before you purchase any gadget, you should seriously consider purchasing it with bluetooth option, if available.

All About the Blue Tooth

A Blue Tooth enabled device, through a Personal Area Network (PAN), uses secure radio frequencies that are short-range to exchange information between various other devices. These devices include mobile phones, personal computers, digital cameras, video game consoles, laptops, and printers.

In order for a Blue Tooth to be successfully used, it must be compatible with the device that you are attempting to connect it with.

There are many different reasons why you might want to use a Blue Tooth. Some of the reasons are:

  1. Wireless networking between personal computers in a small area in which a low bandwidth would be required
  2. Wireless networking between different compatible devices, like a laptop and a printer, or a laptop and digital camera, etc.
  3. Via OBEX (Object Exchange) the transfer of reminders, contacts, and appointments between compatible devices.

Most commonly, a Blue Tooth is used with hand-held computing devices and cell phones. The most common way for information to be exchanged in this manner is by transferring files from PDAs or phones to computers, or by using a Blue Tooth headset.

Bluetooth has undergone lot of changes through introduction of various versions. Security is, of course, the most important concern when dealing with wireless technology, so there are a number of developments being implemented to enhance security features.

Extended Inquiry Response is a feature of the new Blue Tooth that will enable more information to be processed during the inquiry procedure. This will allow for better filtering of what devices are and are not allowed during connection.

Additionally, encryption keys are very necessary in the implementation of a secure wireless connection. The Bluetooth is being improved using Atomic Encryption Change, which allows links that are encrypted to periodically change their encryption keys, thus allowing better security.

Now, the price of Bluetooth device has considerably reduced. But, the prices do vary depending on the type of device and the type of connections you would like to make.

However, if you are looking for the latest in wireless technology, you will find that a bluetooth device is a very cost effective choice. In the subsequent articles, we will discuss the various types and choices you have while deciding on the right blue tooth device suitable for you.
